Gunther was part of a hoarding case where all the dogs went to the shelter. There were 20 dogs altogether and they were all adopted or pulled by rescues except Gunther. He seemed to be the most fearful of the bunch. The shelter was able to put him into a foster home where he made some progress but still needed some more help.
We decided we might be able to help him out. We were able to get him into boarding with one of our rescue partners. We hoped that with daily interaction with different people, he will learn that people are ok.
Gunther has improved by leaps and bounds since being in the boarding facility. He has even gone on overnight visits with a couple of staff members. The wonderful people who took him for sleepovers say he appears to be housetrained. And he loves to snuggle on the couch watching TV.
While Gunther has improved greatly, he has moments where he panics if you reach to pick him up. So, his ideal home would be a quite one with patience to allow him to come out of his shell at his own pace. Having another pup to play and hang out with would help him greatly. He will need a yard with a high, secure fence/wall as he still has escape tendencies when he is in panic mode.
