From the Heart Rescue was founded in 2004 with one goal in mind – to help the injured, abused, disable and senior dogs left behind by other rescues. We rescue and rehabilitate approximately 100 dogs a year, each one passed over because no other rescue or person would come to their aid.

From The Heart Rescue works solely on a foster care network which is especially vital for special needs dogs, those recovering from surgery or illness, and senior dogs. The foster care program serves as a transition to new homes and provides stability, training and love while the animals await their forever family.

Fosters truly are the FRONT LINE for these animals & critical step in saving more lives! A foster home is a temporary living situation for animals while they are awaiting placement in a permanent home. Foster families provide shelter, food, care, love, and guidance. The number of animals we can save depends entirely on the number of people who will open their homes and hearts to foster them. For some of these animals, this will be their first experience being treated as a loved family pet, for others it eases the sadness of losing their home in their senior years. No matter what their previous circumstance, YOU are their salvation and you should never underestimate the important role you are playing in their lives!

With From The Heart Rescue, you will be given all of the tools you need to be the best temporary fur parent you can be. We provide the equipment, emergency support, and dietary advice you need to make it a successful and enjoyable fostering experience. While fostering, all food and medical treatment is paid for by From The Heart Rescue, we just ask you to supply the love.

Why is foster care important?

Foster Care is critical to our rescue efforts, the more homes we have, the more animals we can save. Being a foster family has rewards beyond the essential value of helping a pet in need find a new home. For some, it is a chance to have an animal companion without making a lifetime commitment, or to try new companions for an existing pet. Becoming a foster family is a rewarding experience and can be a lot of fun. Yes, there are often tears shed when a foster finally finds a home of their own, but knowing you have saved a life and opened up space to save another is truly heartwarming.

Who would make a good foster parent?

How much time does it take?

Our foster families are requested to treat the pet as their own…play with it, feed it, and spend time giving it the love it needs, depending on the type of pet, its age and its particular needs. We ask that you make the pet available at our Adoption Events generally held on weekends and, if it is not adopted to continue its foster care. Other responsibilities are reporting to us on the habits and traits of the dog so we can find a compatible home, and taking the dog to veterinary appointments.

How Long Can I Expect to Foster a Pet?

The average foster period is 8 weeks or longer. Some pets need more time because of age, illness, injury, or behavior issues. In other words, while we can give you an estimate on how long the dog will take to recover based on our experience, we cannot guarantee the dog will be adopted during that time. We do ask foster families keep the animal until the animal gets adopted to reduce stress on the dog trying to adjust to yet another home while still recovering from its previous life.

Our mission is to serve the underserved -- the abandoned, orphaned, abused, injured and special needs dogs which have nowhere else to turn and to provide the love and care they never had until a forever home is found.

Founded in January 2004, From the Heart Rescue (FTH) is dedicated to caring for the hurt and frightened animal victims of accident, disease, cruelty and neglect, as well as senior and disabled animals, by providing the life-saving surgeries, medications and special care they need which other organizations are unable or unwilling to give.
