Bonita is a 14-year-old sweet pup. She only weighs 4 pounds. She was surrendered to us when her family decided to move across the country and felt she would not be able to make the trip.
When we first met Bonita, she had a toenail that was growing like a stick, you can see it in her photos. Now this is not normal and is usually because of some kind of trauma or infection. We scheduled a vet appointment and had her foot x-rayed. The x-ray showed that most of the bone for that toe was gone. This signals cancer or a long untreated infection. It was decided to amputate the toe to be safe. We are waiting on pathology results.
We have learned that Bonita is very independent. She is not a snuggly pup and prefers to lay on the floor or in a dog bed by herself. She does get along with the other dogs but mostly ignores them and does her own thing. She also LOVES to eat. Bonita has not met a kibble she doesn't like.
Bonita's pathology results have come back clean. The reason her toenail grew that way was due to an overgrowth of keratin. So, now that the toe has been removed, no more problems
