Hi! My Name Is Joseph

I came to rescue after I wound up at animal services. Senior guys like me often don't do well in the shelter. It's a very stressful environment. We aren't often adopted and it takes a toll on our health! I was having some health issues so the shelter called From The Heart to see if they had any room for me!

A nice foster home with the rescue volunteered to take me in so that I could receive the medical care I needed. I was peeing blood so off to the vet I went! At the vet we discovered that it's because I have prostatitis. I also have Ehrlichia and I'm blind in one eye. I'm also very underweight. From The Heart is working on fixing me up and getting some meat on my bones!

Thanks to testing at the vet, we have learned Joseph has Addison's disease.

In a dog with Addison’s disease, the adrenal glands don’t produce enough hormones to maintain normal stress levels. Without our corticosteroid hormones to help us adapt to stressful situations, even the tiniest of stressors can cause serious issues and in severe cases, death.

Joseph's Addison's has been controlled with daily medicine and a monthly shot. Because of his weight the monthly shot is very expensive. Due to the costs of Joseph's medications, he will remain in his Fospice home here at the rescue.
