Mimi found herself picked up as a stray and taken to the shelter. An out of state rescue was interested in her but she tested Heartworm positive so they couldn't take her. The shelter posted a plead for a local rescue to take her. We were able to secure a foster and she came to FTH.
During her intake vetting it was discovered that not only does Mimi have heartworms, she's also anaplasmosis and ehrlichia positive. All of things could have been prevented with the proper preventatives from the vet. Heartworms is transmitted by infected mosquitoes and the other 2 are bacteria from tick bites.
Mimi has been treated for everything. We still have to wait to be sure that the heartworms have been killed off. But for right now she is living her best life in her foster home.
