Hi! My Name Is Vieja

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

Vieja was picked up as stray wearing a shirt that says, "Mom's Favorite". So, we know she had a family at one time since dogs aren't dressing themselves. But no one went to the shelter to look for her. Since we specialize in small senior dogs, we asked the shelter if we could pull her. The shelter at first felt she was too sickly and planned to euthanize her. But we begged them to at least allow us to give her a chance and they finally agreed.

We are so happy they did. It turns out, Vieja has diabetes. That explains why she is always hungry, but she doesn't gain weight. It also explains her cataracts and the UTI she has. And x-rays showed that she had been eating rocks and dirt. Once we have the diabetes under control, we will be able to schedule her for a dental cleaning. Her teeth are very bad and she most likely will lose most of them. Don't forget to take care of your pups teeth!

So, for now, Vieja will be spoiled in her foster home as we work to get her healthy.
