Surrender Your Pet

Thinking of surrendering your Pet?

We know that sometimes life happens and people find themselves unable to properly care for their pet. Our greatest fear is that someone will feel so desperate that they consider giving or selling their pet to a stranger.  Without the required references and home checks performed by rescue groups, dogs run the risk of being placed into unhealthy and abusive homes. We want to ensure your loved one gets the home they deserve.

Before you make the decision to surrender, give away, or sell your dog, we may be able to help you find solutions that will allow you to keep your dog as a member of the family. While we can't guarantee miracles, we do have extensive experience dealing with a multitude of issues and can certainly offer suggestions and alternatives to giving up your dog.

Surrendering your dog to From the Heart Rescue.

We understand that sometimes, despite best efforts, it is necessary to surrender your dog. Based on urgency and foster home space availability, From the Heart Rescue occasionally does take in dogs surrendered by their owners, or will help you to find placement. Please understand that because we have very limited resources, it's necessary for us to prioritize the dogs we take into rescue. Shelter dogs in danger of being euthanized are given first and top priority. Next are dogs in need of immediate health care that their owners cannot provide. Then, owner surrenders are considered.

What From the Heart Rescue needs from you.

Please Fill out the application below. Once received and reviewed, a From the Heart Rescue representative will contact you.

If accepted into rescue, at the time of surrender please bring anything that belongs to the dog, such as a collar, leash, crate, bowl, bedding, and a favorite toy. Before the surrender, please ensure your dog is up to date on vaccinations, spay/neutered and heartworm/erlichia tested. You may be asked to complete a surrender questionnaire, which will provide us with basic information on your dog. This will help ease the dog's transition into foster care. Gather any of the dog's medical records to give to From the Heart Rescue. Vaccination paperwork is required because it will avoid unnecessary duplicate vaccinations.

Surrendering your pet to From the Heart Rescue is a permanent decision.

From the Heart Rescue knows that surrendering your dog is a very difficult decision, but sometimes - it is the only one to make. If you choose to surrender your dog, you'll be asked to complete a surrender contract. Your signature on this contract represents a permanent decision on your part. This legally binding contract gives full ownership of the dog to From the Heart Rescue. This allows us to provide veterinary care and down the road, legally adopt out the dog to a carefully pre-screened 'forever' home.

Please understand that we consider adoptions through our organization to be closed, meaning that we do not reveal the identities of either the surrendering or adopting parties.

Your privacy, as well as the privacy of the adopter, will be protected.
